We grow scallions every year from seed started indoors in 4-inch pots. There may be up to 30 little scallions in each pot and they transplant quite successfully and grow without problems. Here are two groups of scallions started a few weeks apart so we have a continuous supply.
These are probably bigger and older than they should be. Still they're usable. We often have scallions still in the garden at the end of the season and they winter over without any protection and can be used in the spring.
